Pregnancy must haves

Now that we're adjusting to life as a family of three (agh!!) I've put together a list that made my pregnancy comfortable and "easy." Any other mommas out there, feel free to add to my list!

1

It's always a good idea to start taking a multi-vitamin when you're TTC, but this brand literally says "For pregnant women and women trying to get pregnant" on the label. Sounds good to me! Several friends who had smooth pregnancies recommended this one to me, and I was always able to find a buy one get one free offer at local pharmacies. They are large capsules, so could be a tough pill to swallow (literally) if you have trouble with that, but it did wonders for my hair! If you don't pick this one, pick one that at least contains key ingredients DHA and folic acid.

No stretch marks here! I can't verify this alone was the reason I didn't get any, much of that has to do with genetics and the fact that my baby bump never really got that big, but I also would not have risked going without using a stretch mark preventative! One of the Saturdays Mathias was vending the Johns Island farmers market, I checked out a vendor who carries a line of organic skin care products. I told her we were only 8 weeks along and she immediately reached for this small tub of shea butter. She told me to start using it tonight, use it every night, and advised I would probably run out just before the baby came. It goes on pretty thick but soaks into the skin quickly and doesn't leave you feeling greasy. I hate the smell of cocoa butter but this is made with essential oils so the smell is pleasant too! And she was right, the tub lasted about 7 months...which brings me to the next product.

I have seen this cream recommended several times and used it in just my last month of pregnancy when my shea butter ran out. It has the consistency of lotion, so it spreads MUCH thinner than the butter does, but still does not leave an oily feeling. It soaks into the skin pretty quickly and has a slight floral scent. I was able to snag a big bottle off E-bay for pretty cheap!

What I loved about these leggings compared to my other maternity pants, was that it did not go over the belly. I made it through pregnancy with my belly band and 6 pairs of pants; these under-the-belly Liz Lange leggings, 2 jeans, and 3 other dress pants for work, all of which had the stretchy material made to go over the belly. I find all pants that go over the belly terribly uncomfortable and ended up folding all of them down halfway through pregnancy.

There's a reason my doctor's office will give an appointment card, send 2 texts, leave you a voicemail, AND send a confirmation email to their pregnant patients to remind them of upcoming appointments. Pregnancy brain is real. I have forgotten to close my car door, leaving it wide open at work one day, I've forgotten things at work or home I've specifically left out in the open so I wouldn't forget. I've even forgotten my grandpa. I can remember an appointment days before it happens, even be thinking of it the morning of. But by afternoon, I have come close to driving straight home instead of heading to the doctor's office. To have a calendar in front of you as a daily (...even hourly) reminder instead of hidden in your purse, was a lifesaver! Also- phone alarms!

The baby Bible. The book gives an unbiased, very informational guide to every week of pregnancy. My symptoms followed the week-by-week almost to a T. There's a 'What to Expect' app as well but I like to be able to keep this as a coffee table book to quickly reference and flip through any time I want. The app was nice too though because every Sunday morning became a tradition- Mathias and I would wake up, snuggle in bed before our morning coffee, and watch the new "What to expect this week" video. In addition to the 'What to Expect' app, I also used the 'Glow Fertility tracker' when we were TTC, and 'Glow Nurture' once we were pregnant. I used that one more in the first 20 weeks though- mostly for the community board to find quick answers to questions from other moms to be.

Next week, Grace will be one month old! Already?!?! I'll share my "First Month baby must-haves" then, and the items I should've held off on. Stay tuned!
